Rotaract Ifthar 2015

The Annual Rotaract Ifthar which was held on the 12th of July 2015 at Dehiwala was organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayawardenepura together with the Rotaract Clubs of Colombo North(RCCN), Colombo Mid Town, Colombo Fort, Colombo West, Colombo Millennium City, Centennial United, Excellence College of Management(RCECM) and American National College(ANC).

This event was held in the light of strengthening the bond between Rotaractors of all the clubs beyond the divisions of ethnic groups through celebrating the festival of Ramadan as brothers and sisters of one movement.  Rotaractors were seen engaging in Muslim religious and cultural practices, united as one.

In addition, this event also enabled a group of orphan children to enjoy an Ifthar with the company of Rotaractors. Rotaractors were able to make one of their daily Ifthar special in the spirit of Ramadan despite of the simplicity in the action of sharing a meal.

A stronger bond between the 9 organizing committees was shown which in return promised a fantastic year ahead for Rotaract through the unity of all the Rotaractors irrespective of their religious backgrounds.

Pen a life

හෙට දවස පෑනෙන් or Pen a life, organized by Without Borders(the creators of The Colombo Classroom; a Non-Profit Org.) was held during the course of the Colombo International Book Fair 2015 at BMICH.

This  was a "crowd writing" project where the participants or the writers got a chance to add a sentence to 3 stories that were based on  characters of “3 youngsters from the grassroots of Deraniyagala”. A chance for those who were not able to attend this event was given through an online platform on the website, www.withoutborderslk.org. For those who wished to take part in this Crowd-writing project were also given an opportunity to contribute by Tweeting their ideas. The completed stories will be auctioned where the proceedings will be expended for a worthy cause.

The Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayawardenepura and the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association were given a chance to partner with Without Borders for this worthy cause. Members of the club and the association volunteered to host the stall at the event venue where the stories of Daham, Yohana and Tharushi were penned. The project “Pen a life” was also graced by the Gracien award winner and The Nation’s editor, Malinda Seneviratne.

The Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayawardenepura would like to congratulate Without Borders for initiating this project at the Colombo Book Exhibition 2015 which brought the attention of many to the insignificant lives of the less fortunate enabling them to brighten the futures of these people.
