Smile 2015

"Smile" is an annual Community Service project conducted by the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura in aid of those individuals who are often shunned from the society due to their suffering from Down Syndrome.

"Smile 2015" chaired by Rotaractor Hasini De Silva and Rotaractor Osanda Wijesudara was held on the 28th of October, 2015 at the Madivela Partly Abled Boys Home & Prevocational Training Center from 1.00pm onwards with a participation of 30 club members together with the participation of members from Rotaract Club of Faculty of Arts, UOC.

This project was framed upon two main objectives which were to recognize these individuals as equals while helping them to fulfill their basic needs despite of their restricted environment conditions.

The club members organized an evening full of various fun games and activities like cricket matches, sing alongs and musical chairs for these individuals where they were able to enjoy themselves to the fullest despite of the deficiencies they possess according to the society. The members were seen engaging with these individuals as brothers and sisters of one family through which the first objective of this project was accomplished.

As for the second objective,  with the initiative of Rotaractors Hasini and Osanda the club was able to collect a sufficient amount of donations of dry rations, milk powder packs and toiletry items. Apart from these donations, club members also donated money to the institution in order to support these individuals who seek support of this institution.

Below are some of the photos which were taken during the event which indeed "let their smile change our lives"

The Tree Planting Project

"The Tree Planting Project" is an International Understanding project that was organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenapura with Randunu Dissanayake as the Project Chairperson and Malindu Udawatta as the Project Co-Chair, jointly with other 12 Rotaract Clubs around the world.

This Project was Organized with the intention creating awareness among Rotaractors and school children worldwide symbolizing our immense enthusiasm to take part in the process of eradicating socially constructed boundaries and strive towards a sense of unity by initiating a greener environment and thus bridging differences within humanity. The importance of celebrating our identities while embracing diversity is a great way to preserve a harmonious and peaceful future.

Hence, 20 trees were planted in the premises of Dudley Senanayake College, Narahenpitiya to provide an idea to the students about the importance of protecting mother nature and contributing for a greener tomorrow. In order to add more value and encouragement, a saying was tagged to all the trees which were planted at this project. Some of the quotes were "Violence is Natures's Downfall" "Only Love Stops Hate Changing Our World" etc.
